What's the nightlife like in Vung Tau? Are there any places that play club music at night with a dance floor? Vung Tau is bad for nightlife, worse for shopping. A handful of bars, mostly catering for ageing "sexpats", and I don't know of any clubs. If you want a beach town with good nightlife, you're better off heading to Nha Trang. There are a couple of places you can go for dancing, but I wouldn't head to Vung Tau for the nightlife, unless, as the previous post said, you're ageing and after sex!
There is a "Russian" bar on the beach at Back Beach, but it's more a laid-back place. Can find out where the 'non prostitute' night spots are if you like. There are shops and a good market, but Vung Tau isn't really set up at all for tourists. How far is Nha Trang from Vun Tau? Is it fairly easy to go out there? And do there's a lot of outdoor celebration in Vietnam over Christmas? Any particular reason for this? To be honest, 3 hours in Vung Tau is too much! Vung Tau has one noisy, dirty overcrowded beach, and nothing else to see.
We are staying in Vung Tau because my parents have a home there. This is actually my first time visiting Vietnam so I am quite excited! I must stay around town to visit family but I really hope to be able to go and visit other places as well. All the places that you have mentionned above are definitely plans for my itineary. There are many more restaurants and bars in Vung Tau than you'll see on that site, but it will give you a good idea of what it's like.
I've just come back from 2 years in Vung Tau and loved every minute of living there. I can understand why some people bag it, but if you've got the time to spend there it's great. The beach is only busy on weekends, the rest of the week it's all yours. Have fun, and give Vung Tau my regards. I miss it!!! One poster has a real downer on Vung Tau.
Judging by the amount of development going on in VT, it would seem the a lot of people think differently from him, and they are spending serious money!!!
