In little more than a decade, the subject has been transformed from a blank field to one of the most burgeoning cultural historiographies on the First World War, with historians focusing their attention on whether or not modern warfare triggered a crisis in masculinity1 and how masculinity was reconstructed upon homecoming and in the context of commemoration.
